General Summary:
Under broad supervision, this position is responsible for performing surveillance of various network elements, monitoring network alarms, maintaining notifications and status of network performance, and assisting with network concerns and problems for a 24X7 operations center.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities: (*Essential Functions)
- Maintains shift log of network events and activities.
- Provides oversight to and an escalation point for NOC Engineer I activities.
- Sets schedules and duties for NOC Engineers and Leads
- Identifies and documents the basic components of the switches, servers and network elements for training and procedural purposes.
- Provides training to NOC Engineer I as needed.
- Reports appropriate outages via proper notifications, tickets, and procedures. Initiates and facilitates some training setup by NOC Management.
- Identifies faulty circuit and facility issues while assisting switch site personnel.
- Monitors low and high traffic trunk groups, and provides recommendations for changes and improvements.
- Performs remote trouble shooting functions, independently.
- Makes changes to the switches, DXC or necessary elements for outage resolution, independently.
- Analyzes operational measurements and corrects alarmed statistics and FTP files as required, based on switch alarms, and provides recommendations.
- Monitors the SS7, Veraz, DMS, DXC, LNP, SBC, IP Infrastructure, Environmental and STP network alarms, responds for resolution, and submits report of findings.
- Serves as a primary contact for NOC Engineer I, switch sites and escalations.
- Provides recommendations to management to coordinate disaster recovery plans. Implements plan independently.
Job Requirements/Experience:
- Associate’s Degree in a related network/telecommunications field or comparable experience preferred.
- Basic working knowledge of Telephony, VOIP technology, IP Networks, SUN Servers, Unix Scripting, Remedy, Windows/NT, alarm management are preferred.
- 3-5 years experience in the telecommunication, voip, IT or related technology industry.
- Extensive working knowledge of NOC activities, switching technology, Remedy, Windows/NT, DXC, SS7, LNP, IN, STP, and environmental alarm management.
- Solid understanding of international network philosophy.
- Ability to analyze operational measurements in the switch if the tools are not operational and provide reports/results.
- Working knowledge of DS0, DS1, DS3, and OC level relationships to SPMs and DXC equipment.
- Working knowledge of PCs and experience using software to review report on line.
Will be required to work a variety of shifts to staff a 24 hr/day operations center.
